With Halloween fast approaching, social media sites are abuzz with ghosts stories and pictures of cool costumes. By contrast, regular photos just seem to be lacking that macabre feel.

Google+ wanted to spice things up this Hallows' Eve, so they've introduced a new Halloweenify feature for your existing pictures. With a few quick taps or clicks, your photos will be spookier than ever.

Haloweenify from the G+ App

Google+ Photos is available on both iOS and Android, and it comes bundled with the regular G+ app. If you don't already have Google+ installed, head to iTunes or Google Play to get it installed.

With Google+ installed, open up the Photos companion app. There should be two separate icons for this app combo—a G+ logo and a pinwheel. We want the latter here.

From here, tap the Auto Awesome button at the top of the screen, then choose your Halloweenify method. Fun effect is a bit less scary than Spooky effect, but it's totally your call.

After that, select any pictures that you want to Halloweenify, then press the Create button at the top of the screen.

In a few seconds, your pictures will be given a spooky twist. Some will have a dark and scary filter applied, and others will even be turned into horror movie-style GIFs.

If you don't like the results off the bat, go ahead and run the photos through Haloweenify again. The effects are randomized, so you'll surely find something that chills you to the bone.

Halloweenify on the Web

The same cool effects can be applied through the web version of Google+. Just head to the G+ Photos site, then click one of the Halloweenify buttons at the top of the page.

The rest of the process is pretty much the same as on the mobile app—select any photos that you want Halloweenified, then click Create.
